Normal service has resumed
With the city lockdown now thankfully over and normal service resumed this should not apply to the anti-social practices of littering, flytipping and graffiti that have again started throughout the city.
Less than 48 hours and empty beer cans, bottles and litter appeared in the green area behind The Maples residential home in Orton Goldhay.
These anti-social practices remaining unchecked and those responsible being allowed to pollute these once attractive townships.
Residents are calling on those responsible within the council to give prevention of these unwanted practices a higher priority and seek residential help in reporting such incidents so that those responsible can be identified, named, shamed and prosecuted.
There are many (caring) residents who have supported the pride of place appeals by having colourful and attractive gardens, etc, and are bringing back the good old days of the Development Corporation.
It would be a good idea to help further support these efforts by having a Best Kept Estate competition with an annual award (trophy) along with prizes of plants, etc, given by local garden centres.
Also the introduction of volunteer estate wardens to help support the community policing who seem to be involved in more serious operations chasing thieves, burglars and the drug traffickers on the increase in and around the city and townships.
The Peterborough Telegraph have been reporting (with photographs) the various ‘sites’ around the areas that have been abused and used as dumping grounds in the wooded areas and hedgerows. Conveniently hidden black bags, old furniture and clothing having regularly appeared in Bringhurst and local estates.
Hopefully the calls for more residential concern will lead to identifying those who are responsible for these anti-social practices which will hopefully lead to a colourful and healthy environment that all can enjoy.
