CODE 404 Acorn, cert 15 DVD £19.99 Think Robocop meets Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) - you’ll need long memories - and you’ll know where this madcap crime caper’s coming from.

In its favour is the casting, with brilliant Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays (pictured) as mis-matched partners. DI John Major (Mays) - no, not that one! and DI Roy Carver (Graham) are on an operation with the Met’s Special Investigation Unit when an undercover sting goes wrong and Major’s shot dead. But there’s life in the dead cop yet when he becomes the first candidate for an artificial intelligence re-build by Dr Parfitt (Amanda Payton). Unfortunately the re-incarnated Major’s a prototype with a problem he’s got malfunctioning issues called a Code 404, and shift-alt-delete just won’t fix it. His arrogant demeanour and gung-ho attitude remain, but even Carver has to admit his carboncopy partner is a bit of an idiot who seems incapable of doing anything right, even in avenging his own death. Major’s cyborg glitches are often hilarious and his use of Americanisms - thanks to it being an American AI programme - constantly rub

BURDEN Signature, cert 15 DVD £7.99 This searing true story of a man deciding to quit the racist Ku Klux Klan in 1996 confronts some sadly still relevant issues. In a small Southern Carolina town Klansman Tom Griffin (Tom Wilkinson) has set up the Redneck KKK Museum, and the Reverend Kennedy (Forest Whittaker) wants it closed. Meanwhile, lifetime racist Mike Burden (Garrett Hedlund) has a choice to make. If he wants his relationship with single mother Judy (Andrea Riseborough) to develop he must quit the Klan because she’s sickened by the behaviour of the racist thugs Mike calls friends.

Our rating:

Carver up the wrong way. Some people might find it a bit sweary but many of the comedy gags, emphasised by Mays towering over pugnacious, but short, Graham - whose having an affair with his partner’s ‘widow’ Kelly (Anna Maxwell Martin) - work thanks to the talent involved. It was so popular on Sky1, I’m sure there’ll be a reboot.

ARTHUR & MERLIN:

KNIGHTS OF CAMELOT Signature, cert 15 DVD £7.99 This gritty Brit film take on the Camelot story packs a wallop.
