New music chat show that is online and offbeat

He’s the frontman of one of Britain’s most important bands .

And now Joe Talbot of Idles is hosting his own online talk show, with some of his favourite artists as his guests.

Described as “part therapy session and part virtual pub”, Balley TV is filmed in isolation, with conversations ranging from current events to creating music during quarantine – with the occasional quiz segment and marshmalloweating contest.

Balley TV launched its pilot episode last month with guests Mike Skinner of The Streets and Nadya Tolokonnikova from Pussy Riot.

Arlo Parks and Billy Bragg appeared on the July 3 edition, which is available to watch online.

Future guests include Kate Tempest and Kenny Beats tomorrow (July 17), and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, Jehnny Beth from Savages and The Big Moon’s Fern Ford on July 31. Ishmael Butler and Sharon Van Etten complete the current line-up on August 14.

Idles are one of the most acclaimed bands to have emerged on the British music scene in the past decade. Known for their riotous live shows, punchy songwriting, explosive musicianship, vibrant wit and searing political verve, including powerful explorations of masculinity, the band will release their keenly anticipated third LP - Ultra Mono - on September 25 via Partisan Records. Last month the group shared album highlight and thunderous call-to-action Grounds.

The band’s previous album - Joy As An Act Of Resistance - debuted top 5 on the official UK album charts, earning the band instantly legendary performances at Glastonbury and on Jools Holland and NPR’s Tiny Desk.

They were profiled by the New York Times and PBS NewsHour as part of a group of new bands tearing down outdated perceptions of masculinity.
