Confusion reigns at P’boro Northern Star
It’s been a bizarre few days at Peterborough Northern Star FC.
Rumours swept the local football circuit last weekend suggesting wellknown local manager Seb Hayes was about to become the first-team manager at the Branch Bros Stadium in place of Scott Goodwin.
Goodwin, who went public recently about falling seriously ill, had only been appointed in the summer and has yet to manage the club in a competitive match.
He had released an entire squad of players soon after his arrival and appeared to have signed only three replacements ahead of the United Counties Premier Division campaign.
But Star co-owner Scott Steward was quick to shout down the story claiming ‘it was a total lie, Scott Goodwin is my manager’.
Hayes didn’t want to discuss the situation, but has confirmed he is not interested in becoming Star manager.
The PT has been unable to contact Goodwin who was due to meet Steward earlier this week to discuss his future.
Hayes has managed Star before as well as other local clubs Wisbech Town and Holbeach United.
Stamford AFC have • been forced into a quick change to their backroom staff ahead of their Northern Premier League campaign.
New first-team coach Ben Watts had to relinquish the post after a change in his personal circumstances and has been replaced by former Yaxley and Wisbech coach Luke Hipwell.
Non-league football is now expected to start in the middle of September.
