More goals and fewer sleepless nights – that’s the aim of Posh club record signing Mo Eisa this season.

The £1.3 million capture from Bristol City last summer was satisfied with his 16 goals in 35 appearances in his first season at London Road, but he accepts he might have to step up in the 2020-21 campaign in the likely absence of main man Ivan Toney.

Eisa started slowly, but went on a scoring spree of 15 goals in 21 matches before Christmas. He then lost his starting place in January and struggled to get it back.

“I hardly played the season before I came here so 16 goals is not bad for a first season at a new club,” Eisa said. “But I wanted more and I might have reached 20 goals if the season hadn’t finished early.

“If I miss chances I sometimes find it hard to sleep and every striker has spells when he doesn’t score. Some times you only get one chance in a match and if it doesn’t go in it can look like you haven’t contributed much.

“I went a long time without scoring last season, but I wasn’t starting many matches because Siriki Dembele and Ivan Toney were playing so well.

“You have to keep plugging away and that’s what I did. It often just takes one goal to get you up and running again and I scored and played well alongside Siriki in my last game against Burton.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that we can play well together. The manager would come up with a system that gets the best out of us.

“My aim this season is to score more goals and I’m confident I can do that. I want to show my calmness in front of goal.

“That’s a big strength of mine as when I lash at the ball it doesn’t tend to go too well.

“My favourite goal last season was against Coventry in the last minute (it salvaged a point for Posh) as I stayed calm in a pressure situation.

“I’m not worried about pre-season goals (Eisa scored in just one of four outings so far this summer) as last year I scored five goals in pre-season and started the League One matches slowly.”
