New Posh signing Ethan Hamilton has done the hard yards in League One and now he’s ready to step up and get involved in a promotion push.

The 21 year-old, who has signed a two-year Posh deal, was released at the end of last season by Manchester United after loan spells at Rochdale, Southend United and Bolton Wanderers, three clubs who were fighting at the wrong end of the third tier.

Hamilton enjoyed it all the same and he believes the experience can’t do him any harm.

“I learnt a lot as a footballer and a person by being at Manchester United and I’ve also learnt plenty by playing in League One,” Hamilton said.

“I enjoyed going out to different clubs. It was what I needed at the time, but after leaving United I felt I needed a permanent home and Posh seems the perfect club for me.

“I feel I know the division and I know about Posh from playing against them. They play an attacking style which should be perfect for me.

“I enjoy both the attacking and defensive sides of the midfield role and hopefully I can chip in with a few goals. It’s an exciting opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get started.”

Posh boss Darren Ferguson had his eye on Hamilton for a while.

“I have followed Ethan’s progress for a year or so. He has had a number of loan spells in League One and done well. He is someone I have liked for a while.

“He is a good size, a lovely footballer, left-footed and he will fit in really well.

“We enquired about getting him on-loan previously, but something happened at Manchester United and it didn’t materialise, so it is great to get it done now.”

Hamilton scored six goals in 44 League One appearances, including one on his debut for Rochdale at Posh in January, 2019.
