POSH SALE OF THE CENTURY
RyanBroom’s superb goal and some encouraging displays from younger players were the highlight sofa double Posh defeat at the hands of slickpassing Championship side Coventry City last weekend.
Broom’s goal couldn’t save thestronger-lookingPoshside from a 2-1 reverse, while teenager Ricky-Jade Jones andMo Eisa wereontargetina3-2loss in the second match.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson wasmoreimpressed with those players who might be considered back-ups.
“I was disappointed with the first performance, albeit you have to take into account the strength of the opposition,” Ferguson said.
“Coventry are a very good side. They make you think and you have be very tactically aware defensively to get the better of them.
“But we lost our structure and our shape too easily and we gave the ball away too quickly and cheaply which has been a feature of our preseason.
“But we have good players and a good squad and we will learn andimprove. It’s good to get a performance like that out of the system. The game will stand us in good stead.
“In the second game our level was better. Flynn Clarke was very good playing as a number 10, Harrison Burrows was good again and Ronnie Edwardsdidwell against a strong, powerful striker.
“There were some strong positives overall. We got 90 minutes into Ethan Hamilton and 75 minutes into Dan Butler for a start.”
Broom’s goal-a drive between two defenders followed by a fine finish after Frankie
Kent’s excellent press and tackle - looked to have rescued a draw for Posh, but Callum O’Hare’s deflected strike from a corner seven minutes from time secured victory for the visitors.
Former Posh striker Matt Godden, who played well throughout, had fired Coventry in front early in the secondhalf.
Jones levelled for Posh in the first-half of the second match after catching Coventry goalkeeper Ben Wilson dribbling in his own area, but the Sky Blues scored twice in 10 second-half minutes to make Eisa’s cool finish 15 minutes from time irrelevant.
Clarke capped a fined isplay with the pass for that goal, while there was also a most encouraging display at the heart of the Posh defence from 17 year-old Ronnie Edwards.
