Andy rewarded for 50 years of expertise

Peterborou­gh-based martial arts instructor Andy Fitzgerald has been given the rare honour of a Grand master 10 th degree black belt.

To qualify for this award the recipient must have studied the art for over 50 years!

Fitzgerald is chief instructor at the English Kenpo Martial Arts Centre in Copeland, South Bretton.

Representa­tives from the English Kenpo Karate Associatio­n met in Peterborou­gh last Saturday to celebrate and honour Fitzgerald.

A spokesman for the Associatio­n said: “The city is so lucky to have such a world renowned and respected instructor living and teaching martial arts in Peterborou­gh.

“Over the last 50 years Andy has trained and taught Kenpo Karate to a high standard world wide.”

Also promoted was Peterborou­gh man Simon Trowbridge. He rose to Associate Professor 5th Degree Black Belt status, while Neil Salmon from Ireland, was also promoted to Associate Professor 5th Degree Black Belt at the same ceremony.

English Ken po Martial Arts classes caters for all ages from reception school age to pensioners and are held at the Copeland Community Centre every Saturday and Sunday with amid week class planned for later this year.

Juniors are welcome on either day from 11am to noon withsenior­s trainingbe­tween 11am and noon on Saturdays and 11am-12.30pm on Sundays.

Kenpo is a styleof karate that emphasizes punches, kicks and throws/standing locks.
