Queensgate’s quiet time
Queensgate ShoppingCentre in Peterborough is to introduce new ‘Quiet Afternoons’ initiative with music turned down and lights dimmed to make it more accessible for the disabled.
From 1.30 pm on November 3– which marks Purple Tuesday–and every Wednesday from November 11 until the end of the year – Queensgate andits participating retailers will be dimming their lights andreducing or switching off their mall andin-store music, to create a quieter and more relaxed shopping environment for those who prefer it.
On Purple Tuesday, Queens gate will also have a pianist playing calm and soothing music on them all for all to enjoy.
The annual event, which supports anyone who lives with a disability, encourages organisations to improve the customer experience for disabled people.
Carol Wakelin, environmental manager for Queensgate, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Purple Tuesday again this year and to be launching our new Quiet Afternoons scheme, in another step towards making our centre accessible and enjoyable for all visitors.”
A spokesperson for Shop Mobility in Peterborough added :“As a disability charity, we know the value of those living with disabilities being able to enjoy a shopping experience. Queens gate’ s events and contributions over the years have always been very successful, and we know their new Quiet Afternoons will make the shopping experience even more accessible and positive.”
