Moped yob gets driving ban
Charley Corleys (19) was spotted riding the Lexmoto Titan Moped around the Orton Gate Shopping Centre in December last year.
Now Corleys, of Hinchcliffe, OrtonGoldhayhasbeen banned from the roads for 15 months.
Anti-social and dangerous driving of mopeds, motor bikes and other vehicles on pavements has been an ongoing problem in the Ortons, with police upping patrols to stop the riders earlier this year. Residents said the yobs weremakingtheir lives a misery, and putting pedestrians at risk.
Orton Waterville councillor Julie Howell welcomed the action. She said: “Orton residents will be pleased to know that this individual has beenbroughttojusticeandwe thankthepolicefortheirwork on this case.
“It may be easy to forget that these bikes should be driven with care when they are so cheap to purchase, but accidents are not so easy to forgetandcanchangethelives of those involved forever.
“If a young person in your household rides one of these bikes, please talk to them aboutriding safely. Thepolice and the community will not tolerate dangerous driving, and we ask everyone to help us to keep our streets safe.”
Corleys appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court onOctober 1, whereheadmitted taking a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, driving with no insurance and riding a motorbike with no helmet.
He was also found guilty of an unrelated offence, of breach of a community order in relation to possession of a knuckleduster in a public place.
He was given a 14 week detention order, suspended for 12 months, a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement for 25 days, andordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work.
He was banned from drivingfor15months, andordered to pay£1,399 compensationto moped owner.
