Here’s a spy film in which ever-busy Brit actor and former stuntman Scott Adkins makes James Bond look like a softie.

Adkins plays MI6 agent Martin Baxter, and in the course of the movie he gets shot three times by my reckoning, his legs hit with a hammer while he’s tied to a chair, beaten to a pulp in a cage fight and injured crashing though walls and wrestling down staircases with bad guys. And he’s still the last man standing. What a guy! But, he provides a slam-bam feast of fun for action addicts. The story in this UK/Ukrainian production from Dutch director Adrian Bol, sees Martin trying to provide for young daughter Lisa (Honor Kneafsey) through underground cage fights, after quitting the secret service 12 years ago when an operation went wrong in Kiev and cost the life of his wife, a fellow spy. He still carries the weight of guilt and grief when Ukrainian journalist Sacha (Yuliia Sobol) approaches him to help clearup some details from the failed mission which reflect badly on her father, and to help her find an explosive hidden file. Martin is reluctant, but when a blonde Russian femme fatale kidnaps

Lisa (not knowing what handful this smart kid is!), and his dodgy old MI6 boss is somehow involved, he has little choice but to head back to Kiev and an inevitable shoot out. It’s more Jason Statham than Daniel Craig but Adkins makes a hunky all-action hero.

In which Stallone film did Adkins appear? Entries to Alex Gordon, Legacy competition.
