Six straight wins, 11 different scorers

The Posh domination over their nearest neighbours Northampton Town is showing no sign of stopping.

Saturday’s 2-0 win at Sixfields was a sixth derby day wininFootball Leaguematches in a row for Posh who have scored 13 goals and conceded just one in that run.

Six matches is the second longest winning streak against a single opponent in the Football League in Posh’s history.

They beat Crewe eight times in a row between 1981 and 1984.

Posh have not lost to Cobblers at Sixfields in a League match since a 2-1 defeat in the 2001-02 Division Two season.

Posh have not lost to Cobblers at London Road since Sean St Ledger tripped over the ball and former Posh man Scott McGleish claimed the only goal of the game in the 2005-06 League Two campaign.

Defender Nathan Thompson and midfielder Reece Brown claimed their first goals for the club in last Saturday’s derby day win.

Remarkably 11 different Posh players have now scored in a 2020-21 season which is only eight games old.

Big-money summer signings Jonson Clarke-Harris and Sammie Szmodics plus teenager Flynn Clarke are the current top scorers with two apiece. Others to have netted are George Boyd, Louis Reed, Niall Mason, Mo Eisa, Jack Taylor and Ryan Broom as well as Thompson and Brown.

Replacing the 26 goals in a shortened season from Ivan Toney was always going to be an issue for Posh, but spreading them around is one way of doing it.

Posh have scored seven goals in five League One matches so far this season, four fewer than leaders Ipswich Town who have bagged the most.
