It looks like a case of ‘same again’ for Posh

It looks like a case of ‘same again’ as far as team selection for the visit of Crewe on Saturday is concerned for Posh boss Darren Ferguson.

Ferguson handed several under-employed fringe players the chance to stake a claim for a start against the Railwaymen at the Weston Homes Stadium by picking them to play in the midweek EFl Trophy tie at Tranmere, but it was an opportunity missed by them all.

Ferguson had been frustrated with the level of performance in a League One defeat at Shrewsbury last weekend, but those players look set to be asked to continue the club’s outstanding home form against a gifted and in-form Crewe side.

Centre-back Frankie Kent (concussion) and Jack Taylor (calf ) should be fit to play.

“The lack of intensity (at Tranmere) was really disappointing given what was at stake and as we had freshened the side up,” said Ferguson.

“One of the things I was looking for, apart from reaching the semi-final of a competition I wanted to do well in, was to see players really pushing for a place on Saturday.

“The defence did well and Frazer Blake-Tracy played well, but apart from that there was nothing.

“It was poor overall, but I’d never write anyone off after one bad game, especially when you haven’t been playing regularly.

“I want a reaction from the players again on Saturday. How you deal with the inevitable ups and downs in this strange season will be crucial.

“And we were poor at Crewe earlier this season so I want a reaction to that as well. We went there on the back of a good run and a little break, but we didn’t perform.

“We were poor at MK Dons, but very good when we played them again so I want a repeat of that. We still have the best home record in League One and we have players coming back.

“Frankie Kent will definitely be back and I’m very confident Jack Taylor will be.”

Teenage defender Ronnie Edwards faces six-to-eight weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury picked up in training last week.
