Expansion of car dealership:
Construction work poised to start on new facilities
Up to 50 jobs are being created by a car dealership in Peterborough as it expands its operations.
SW Car Supermarket, in Fengate, has bought two nearby sites which it plans to use to support its move to grow its used car offering.
It is hoped that construction work will start next month with the additional premises and services opening in March.
The first site, a former engineering works, is situated next door to the SW Car Supermarket showroom and will be used to provide extra car handover and workshop space.
And the second site, which is six acres of open land about 0.8 miles away from its current premises, is being cleared for development with construction work soon to start.
John Marshall, Director of Operations at SW Car Supermarket Group, said: “What was a large engineering company is set to become our brand new handover and workshop site, which will take us up to 25 service ramps.
“The much-needed additional workshop space will mean that we can effectively handle up to 40 or 50 cars a day - which will be a fantastic increase for us.”
Anton Khan, Chief Executive Officer of the SW Car Supermarket Group, said: “Acquiring this land has been really exciting for us as it is no distance at all from our SW Car Supermarket premises. At just under six acres in size, the site is huge and to think until very recently it was just scrubland.
“Customers will be pleased to hear that the new SW site will be able to hold an additional 700 to 800 used cars, and about 300 used vans.”
