Big screen football party
Peterborough city centre could once again be hosting live England football games on big screens this summer.
With less than 100 days to go until the delayed Euro 2020 tournament kicks off, Peterborough’s Street Parties team are in talks with a number of city venues to hold street parties and show the games in June.
The team behind the incredible scenes in 2018 – when thousands celebrated England’s progress in the World Cup on big screens behind The Solstice – is looking to put on some of the best footballing parties the city has ever witnessed.
Street Parties have been showing the England matches at World Cups and European
Championships since 2010.
A spokesman said: “We have put on just over 20 safe and secure events to the over18s market and built up an amazing reputation which has seen us gain coverage from all the national media across theworld.
“The icing on the cake was contact from BAFTA asking for coverage from our World Cup events for their promotional campaign before the last awards ceremony.
“We take very big pride on these very successful and well-run Street Party events in the city centre of Peterborough, attracting massive crowds of all over 18s to the arenas we have held them in, gaining respect not only from the public who have come to these but also all the local authorities and services operating on the given nights.’’

A proposed research centre at the new Peterborough university would have a multistorey car park with up to 400 spaces, according to newly submitted plans.
City 3D printing specialists Photocentric will be the anchor of a new threestorey manufacturing and materials research and development centre at the ARU Peterborough campus, based around the Embankment.
The £16.47 million project off Bishop’s Road will focus on zero carbon technologies.
It has previously been revealed that next to the centre will be a decked car park with up to 180 spaces, with the potential for additional capacity.
Now, a full application has been submitted to Peterborough City Council which reveals that the proposed multi-storey car park would have capacity for up to 400 spaces.
The building itself would be accessed via a new road off Bishop’s Road, while new bus stops nearby are also proposed.
The car park – which it is anticipated would be built at the same time as the research centre – would be accessed via a new T-junction which would also serve the existing Regional Pool car park.
The planning application also reveals that there are plans to create a rain garden outside the new facility, which is due to open in 2022.
One concern which was raised, however, was the fact a ground engineering report revealed the site has previously been used as a refuse tip with concerns over “contamination,” while there is “significant buried infrastructure (drainage and electrics) crossing the site.
A decision on the application is expected to be made by the end of June.
