‘Roar-some’ look for new bar

ork has started on transforming a former dessert lounge into Peterborough city centre’s newest coffee shop and wine bar.

Neil Treliving, the man behind the venture to be known as Blind Tiger, and his team have set about stripping out what was Tamu on Cowgate in preparation for opening in May.

The venue, says Neil, gets its name from a prohibition era “speakeasy” in 1920s America – reflecting on his decision to launch a bar during a pandemic!

There will be coffees in the morning before Blind Tiger becomes a wine bar with cheese and charcuterie platters and an extensive

Wselection of craft beers. With planning and licensing applications approved, Neil said: “Everything is in place, we have got the keys and we have set about striping the place –we have already got the frame up for what will be the bar.

“We then have someone coming in to build a cellar for the beer. We are looking to offer around 25 craft beers – their popularity is something that has been on the rise in recent years and most cities have plenty of craft beer bars whereas in Peterborough there is pretty much just The Stoneworks.

“We also have the designs done for the decor and everything should come together for when we anticipate opening in May, by which time the lockdown restrictions will allow people inside.”

The bar will seat between 40 and 50 on the ground floor – a basement bar will follow possibly at the end of the year doubling capacity – and an application is in with the council to allow seating for around 40 outside on King Street.
