RUNS FOR RESEARCH

A local cricketer has devised an innovative plan for club players to raise money for dementia/Alzheimer’s research.

Long Sutton CC’s Jake Burton has launched ‘Runs for Research’

which involves club cricketers pledging donations for every run they score and/ or every wicket they take.

Burton said: “I lost my grandad at the back end of 2020. He was a big cricketer and played a big part in persuading myself, my dad and my sister to play.

“He suffered with dementia/Alzheimer’s towards the end of his life and that got me thinking about doing something to fundraise for them.

“I’m hoping players will pledge small amounts based on their performances in 2021, eg 5p a run, 20p a wicket. At the end of the season they will have accumulated a donation which is substantial but not too great.

“We’ve had a decent amount of sign-ups already.”
