Dressing down won’t bother Burrows

-

Posh boss Darren Ferguson insists teenage star Harrison Burrows will react positively to a public dressing down after last weekend’s 3-0 win at Swindon Town.

Burrows came on as a substitute in the 68th minute, but was taken off again 22 minutes later as Ferguson was irritated by the 19 year-old’s attitude.

Straight after the game Ferguson said: “Harrison has learnt an importantant lesson. He’s been magnificent this season, but he didn’t seem ready to play in this game. I’m his biggest fan. He’s a really good player, but he looked all at sea and I’m not having what I saw. We’re trying to win a league game. We’re trying to win a league.”

Ferguson has since confirmed he spoke to Burrows again on Saturday night and on Monday morning and he’s confident the player won’t be affected by the criticism.

“Harrison is a great lad,” Ferguson stated. “But he’s also very strong and I would never have said anything publicly if I thought he couldn’t take it.

“I sent him a text on Saturday night and we’ve spoken since. He was very impressive in training on Monday and I am confident he will take the criticism in the way it was intended.

“He knows his performance wasn’t good enough. He has set himself very high standards.”

Burrows has enjoyed a breakthrough season with 22 appearances and a first senior goal.

He was described as the leading light of a ‘golden generation’’ of young Posh players by Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony last week.

Posh star Siriki Dembele became the first League One player to reach 10 goals and 10 assists this season last weekend.

Dembele scored twice in the 3-0 win at Swindon and would have boosted his assist tally if his teammates had finished better.

Dembele said: “It is always good to be involved in goals and assists and hopefully I can get a few more between now and the end of the season.

“I have showed what I can do when I get on the ball high up the pitch.”
