Harrox had a perfect top flight playing record when the competition was abandoned due to the coronavirus crisis.

But the enforced break didn’t adversely affect them as they beat regular title rivals Netherton United 3-1 in their opening Cup group game.

Joe Townsend, a Billy King penalty and a Mark Baines own goal won the game for Harrox. Robbie Ellis replied for Netherton who will still be confident of qualifying for the quarter-finals as two from each group go through to the knockout stages.

Netherton are at Division One side Eunice, Huntingdon on Saturday when Harrox travel to Premier Division rivals ICA Sports who didn’t play last weekend.

Another hot fancy for the cup, Stilton United eased to a 3-0 win at King’s Cliffe in their opening match. First-half

goals from Lewis McManus, Ash Jackson and Kyial West settled the contest.

There were some opening

day shocks though as Division One sides Wittering Premiair (2-1 at Ketton), Whittlesey Athletic Reserves (3-1 v Cardea),

Oundle Town (4-0 v Long Sutton) and Thorpe Wood Rangers (4-1 at Leverington) all beat top-flight opposition.
