Transfer coup for Posh:
Posh believe they have pulled off a transfer coup by prising highly-rated midfielder Jorge Grant from Lincoln City.
And sources close to Sincil Bank have told the Peterborough Telegraph they have captured the 26 year-old for a bargain price.
Posh triggered a clause in Grant’s Lincoln contract which allowed him to leave the Imps for a Championship club if a set valuation was met.
The Peterborough Telegraph believes that fee was under £500k for a player worth far more than that, even in a depressed market.
Posh had to beat off opposition from seven other Championship clubs to land their man and it took a month of hard negotiations before Grant agreed to sign a threeyear contract.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “When we found out there was a possibility of bringing Jorge to the club, he became one of our main targets during the close season.
“And when I sat down with the boy, it was obvious he was very interested in coming to play for us. The way we play suits him down to the ground and it is a really big signing for us.
“He scored a lot of goals and
created many more last season, and he also brings a bit of versatility.
“Jorge can play in a two in midfield or in a three, or further forward as a number 10. We have had to be patient to get the deal over the line because there were a lot of other clubs in for him, so I am absolutely delighted to get it done.”
Grant, who started his career at Nottingham Forest before loan spells at Luton Town, Mansfield Town and Notts County, joined Lincoln in the summer of 2019 and made
89 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals in all competitions.
Grant made 17 Championship appearances (six starts) in the early days of his career at Forest.
Last season he was voted into the PFA’s League One teaam of the year, alongside Posh striker Jonson ClarkeHarris.
Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony revealed Posh tried to sign Grant when he was set to leave Forest.
MacAnthony said: “Jorge is one hell of an EFL player and a great addition to our midfield ranks.
“He’s a good age, has plenty of experience, is a very talented and versatile player and he was a leader at Lincoln. He’s going to be great in our dressing room.
“There were a lot of clubs in for him so it has taken a bit of time, but we got there in the end.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do, I remember chasing him at Forest when he was young.”
