FIVE THINGS FOR YOUR WEEK...

-

STREAMING Schmigadoon! Apple TV+, streaming now

There’s nothing like a Hollywood musical to get your blood pumping, whether it’s the toe-tapping romance of West Side Story or the lung-busting Fiddler on the Roof, people either love or loathe them. If you’re in the latter camp, you might want to go walk the dog when the curtain goes up on this musical comedy series, executive produced by Lorne Michaels, creator of Saturday Night Live. It stars Cecily Strong and KeeganMichael Key as a couple on a backpacking trip trying to kick-start their relationship when they discover a magical town in which everyone is living in a studio musical from the 1940s. They then discover they can’t leave until they find “true love.”

FAMILY FUN Rolling in It ITV & STV, 7pm, Saturday

The first run of the game show, which involves a giant arcade-style machine, proved such a success with viewers last year that a second series was quickly commissioned. It got under way last week, with Sarah Millican, Oti Mabuse and Martin Kemp trying to help – but more than likely hindering – the contestants as they attempted to win a cash prize. Expect more of the same this Saturday, except with actor and singer Martine McCutcheon, comedian and musical theatre star Jason Manford and TV presenter AJ Odudu taking part. Stephen Mulhern hosts.

DRAMA Baptiste BBC1, 9pm, Sunday

It’s been almost two and a half years since we last saw Tcheky Karyo as retired police investigator Julien Baptiste, left, so you could be forgiven for thinking that this spin-off from The Missing was now dead and buried. However, all good things come to those who wait, and we’re certainly thrilled about it returning to our screens. Those with long memories will remember that the first run ended with the revelation that Julien’s long-lost son Niels was a corrupt cop who killed his own mother. Now we get to see the psychological toll that has had on the ex-cop, and which may have an impact on his latest case. Fiona Shaw joins the cast as British Ambassador Emma Chambers, who needs him to find the members of her family who’ve vanished while skiing in Hungary.

SPORT Live Tour de France ITV4, 4pm, Sunday

Gary Imlach hosts the 21st and final stage of this epic men’s cycling event. It usually little more than a parade – it’s considered very bad form to try to beat the winner – but it’s still a magnificent spectacle. This year’s race took in the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Morvan and the Massif Central, and had more than its fair share of thrills and spills, particularly in the early days.
