Peterborough Town completed a terrific Northants T20 double last weekend.

The club’s second team scorched to victory in the Northants T20 Cup at Wollaston just seven days after the first team had lifted the county T20 Championship trophy.

Town saw off the hosts by eight wickets in their semi-final before a remarkable century from opener Kyle Medcalf set up a 36-run final victory over Rothwell.

Man of the match Medcalf struck five sixes in an innings of 104 not out. His acceleration was rapid as he only passed 50 in the 16th over!

Leg spinner Daniel Oldham then took over with a 5-25 spell as Town easily defended their score of 171.

Oldham also bagged 4-8 in the semi-final as Wollaston were restricted to 100-9. Veer Mangat (50no) made light work of that target.

Town seconds are also flying high in Northants Division Two as a six-wicket win against Old at Bretton Gate on Saturday pushed them 26 points clear the top.

Peterborough Town were frustrated to see their scheduled Premier Division game at Brigstock postponed because of a Covid outbreak in the home camp. They’ve now been overtaken at the top by surprise package Geddington and perennial challengers Finedon. Town host leaders Geddington at Bretton Gate on Saturday (11am) and they must do so without regular opening bowlers Mark Edwards and Jamie Smith.

Mystery bowler Richard Kendall, a star of Town’s T20 Championship success, is expected to play.

Oundle Town slow bowler Harrison Craig included former England skipper and record Test match run scorer Alastair Cook among his victims in a remarkable spell of bowling for Cambridgeshire against Essex on Tuesday.

Craig (21) took 5-14 from seven overs in a National Counties Challenge Match at Chelmsford. England Test cap Tom Westley was also among his victims. Craig dismissed Cook for 46, Westley for 34, Michael Pepper for 3, Paul Walter for 1 and Ben Allison for 17 in a top class display of left-arm spin. Essex won by 25 runs.

Craig has also helped Cambs into the semi-finals of the NCCA Trophy, the 60-over competition for the Minor Counties, this season. He has taken 19 wickets at just over 16 apiece in all matches this season.

Peterborough Town opener Chris Milner struck 148 playing for St Ives & Warboys in a Cambs Division One defeat at Foxton on Saturday.
