Posh have had to take a considerable financial hit on striker Mo Eisa who left the Weston Homes Stadium to join MK Dons this week.

Eisa cost Posh a club record £1. 3 million when signed from Bristol City in June, 2019.

The fee paid by MK Dons is undisclosed, but Posh director of football Barry Fry insists the League One club comfortably broke their transfer record in securing the services of the 27 year-old.

Dons’ existing transfer record was £250k paid for Kieran Agard in 2016 and Alex Gilbey in 2017.

Fry said: “MK chased Mo for a long time. They wanted him in January, but they couldn’t match our valuation.

“They kept trying again in the summer and they kept uppping their bid until reaching a number that made our chairman happy. It’s comfortably a transfer record fee for MK.

“Good luck to Mo and good luck to MK Dons. He’s a good signing for the way they like to play. I’d expect them to have a very successful season.”

Eisa started his Posh career in fantastic form with 14 League One goals before Christmas after forming a deadly partnership with Ivan Toney. He scored twice in a 4-0 win at MK in one of his first Posh appearances.

But a switch of formation to one up front and the subsequent form of Toney meant Eisa was largely left on the sidelines.

He scored just two League One goals last season, including a stunner on what turned out to be his final Posh appearance in the last game of last season at Doncaster, and finished with 21 goals in 69 games (45 starts) in all competitions for the club to become a rare transfer error in the transfer market for Fry and chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

Eisa was transfer listed by Posh at the end of last season.

He was delighted to move to stadium:mk.

Eisa said: “I’m excited to be here. It’s a massive club with huge ambitions that match my own, and I will give my all to help take MK Dons forward.

“I knew there was interest from them back in January and then again this summer. My agent presented me with a few teams who wanted to sign me and I felt MK Dons was the right team for me.

“I am very excited to work under Russell Martin, as he was a huge influence in me making my decision to join the Dons.

“I’m looking forward to the style of play as I feel it plays to my strengths and will give me the opportunity to score goals.

“I am a goalscorer, but most importantly I am a team player and I always try to do my best for the team to win.

“I’m excited to play in a stunning stadium and can’t wait to make my debut in front of fans - hopefully I can score loads of goals for them.”

MK Dons boss Russell Martin, the former Posh player, added: “This is a massive signing for us. He comes with brilliant experience at the level.

“He’s a proven goalscorer and that has earnt him a couple of big moves. That’s great credit to him.

“Mo is really hungry to do well and that desire has been a huge reason as to why this move has been completed.”
