Clarke-Harris to Rangers? Fry says it’s a rubbish rumour

Possh director of football Barry Fry has rubbished rumours suggesting star striker Jonson Clarke-Harris is on his way to Scottish Premier League champions Rangers.

Weekend reports from north of the border claimed ClarkeHarris wanted the move, but Fry dismissed the story out of hand.

Fry revealed Posh had made an enquiry about Rangers defender George Edmundsun in May and there was no mention of Clarke-Harris in those conversations.

Fry said: “I’ve heard nothing from Rangers about Jonson since the back end of last season. They watched a lot of our games back then and Mervyn Day (Rangers chief scout) said there might be interest, but I’ve never heard anything official.

“In May we spoke to Rangers about George Edmundson and at no point did they bring Jonson into the conversation so I guess it was just paper talk, or agent

talk over the weekend.

“We were interested in Edmundson, but they wanted £1.5 million for a player who hardly played for them and who spent last season on loan at Derby. That interest didn’t last long.”

Posh were close to signing Edmundson (23) when he was at Oldham Athletic in 2019, but he chose instead to join Rangers and this week he joined big-spending League One side Ipswich Town.

Posh signed centre-back/ midfielder Josh Knight from Leicester City this summer and he was always their first choice target.

Fry is hopeful of two more new signings before the end of this week with Posh nego

tiating deals for a left-sided defender and a midfielder to complement Jack Taylor, Jorge Grant and Ethan Hamilton.

Crewe midfielder Tom Lowery was linked with Posh this week.
