The wins kept flowing thanks to some outstandin­g throwing, as Peterborou­gh & Nene Valley AC won their final Southern League fixture of the season at Bedford.

The club have won their last four Southern League North Division matches to easily top their mini-league.

Mindaugas Jurksa won the shot with a throw of 15.01m. Ranked number 20 in the UK Jurksa will now head back to Lithuania to prepare for the world deaf games next May.

James Dods who is ranked at 15 in the UK won the B shot with a throw of 14.90m.

Jurksa also won the discus with a new club record of 41.07m, and just pipped Martin Tinkler who won the B competitio­n with a seasons best 40.98m.

Simon Achurch gained maximum points in the hammer, while Sean Reidy won the B javelin in addition to his customary 400m hurdles win.

The female throwers were no less successful and Becki

Hall threw 12.12m to win the shot. Andrea Jenkins went furthest in the B competitio­n, and also won the discus and hammer.

Ellie May Stokes threw 32.92m for her javelin win. In addition she also won the triple jump.

Angus Bowling set a new club pole vault record of 3.80m while taking maximum points.

Alastar Phelan lead the 800m gun to tape to win in 2:05.40.

Dylan Phillips won the high and triple jumps with Holly Aslin winning the ladies B long jump. Under 17 Katie Marsh set a new personal best (PB) of 5.17m when finishing second in the A long jump.

Grigorij Kondratovi­c won the B high jump.

On the track Chloe Finlay won the ladies 5,000m in a season’s best 18:44 and Ellie Rainbow sprinted away to win the 1,500m in 5:17.1.

Helena Darragh clocked 62.1 for a B 400m win, while Luke Phillips was first in the men’s race in 53.00.

Holly Aslin ran a PB of 12.8 to win the ladies 100m and there was a victory for James Marsh in the B 200m.

GREAT NORTH RUN

Helpston Harrier Josh Lunn took 18th place in the Great North Run on Sunday.

The 29 year old England Internatio­nal finished in 1:06.58.

Peterborou­gh & Nene Valley AC’s Phil Martin was also on the elite start line, but pulled out early in the race due to pain from a back injury incurred while lifting one of his dogs out of a car!

Simon Fell of Peterborou­gh & Nene Valley AC squeezed into the top 100. Fell clocked 1:17.10 for 99th place.

Yaxley’s Abi Branson was fourth female under 20 in a time of 1:33.55.

Bushfield 70 year old Eric Winstone was running his 21st Great North run, and despite feeling under the weather finished fourth in his age group in 1:49.20.

COUNTY CHAMPION

Paige Roadley ended her first season as a track runner with a county championsh­ip gold medal

Born and bred in Nottingham­shire the Peterborou­gh & Nene Valley AC athlete capped a fine series of 800m races by winning gold at the Nottingham track on Saturday.

Roadley clocked 2:26.3 in the big race, having run a PB of 2:24.92 at an open meeting in Watford the previous Wednesday.

INTERNATIO­NAL VEST

Brian Corleys wore an internatio­nal vest for the first time when finishing 20th in the Kew 10k on Saturday.

The Bushfield Jogger, who was representi­ng England Masters, crossed the line in 35:31.

Eye’s Wayne Bradley was also in action finishing 59th with a time of 38:18.
