Peterborough RUFC are up and running in Midlands Division One East, although head coach Shane Manning wasn’t entirely satisfied.

Borough beat Lutterworth 2515 at Fengate with Zack McClure, Rob Jacobs and Ryan Morris crossing for tries and Byron Van Uden kicking 10 points.

But there was some sloppy play amongst the brilliance as Manning was quick to point out as he prepared for Saturday’s trip to Market Harborough.

“We are still our own worst enemy at times,” said Manning, who had to play after Borough lost a couple of forwards to injuries. “We seem to play at times like we have to score immediately instead of just having some patience and trusting our processes.

“We gave up one try in particular that was completely avoidable and extremely frustrating.

“But there were still alot of positives. Our defence at times was awesome and when we want to we can play some really good attacking rugby.

“Our two wingers in particular, Rob Jacobs and Willis Ingleby, played really well.

“They made some really good decisions on both attack and defence.

“We now shift our focus to Market Harbrough.

“Away games are always tricky and if we want to come away with a win we will need to be a lot more focused for a lot longer.”

After an early exchange of penalties, Borough had to defend well to keep Lutterworth from crossing for the game’s first try. Rob Moulds, Luke Swindells and McClure were excellent defensively.

Jacobs broke away to set up McClure for a try to make it 8-3, but Borough fell asleep either side of the break to fall 15-8 behind.

Fortunately they woke up again and scored two very good team tries, firstly from Ryan Morris and then Jacobs.

Combined with another van Uden penalty, Borough eventually ran out well deserved winners.
