Town within touching distance of two titles
Peterborough Town moved to within touching distance of a hat-trick of Northants Premier Division titles by cruising to a five-wicket victory against in-form neighbours Oundle Town at Bretton Gate last weekend.
Town now need to beat thirdplaced Old Northamptonians at the Gate this Saturday to confirm top spot. Seven bonus points would also be enough, although that’s tough to achieve without winning.
If David Clarke’s men slip up sole challengers Finedon will overtake them if they beat lowly Desborough.
Town also moved to within one point (from two matches) of a third straight Rutland Division One title after dismantling long-time leaders Wisbech by 151 runs on Sunday.
“It was another strong team performance to beat Oundle,” Clarke said. “We will need to be just as good on Saturday though.”
Town wavered only briefly against Oundle when Pete Foster organised a recovery from 156-8 to 210 all out, but on another belting Bretton Gate track, it never looked like being enough.
Sulemain Saleem continued his fine season with 55
and Clarke made 45 as Town skipped home with almost five 0vers to spare.
Town have named an unchanged side for the visit of Old Northamptonians.
Nadir Haider (58 not out) was the batting star of the Wisbech game as Town recovered
from 103-6 to 218-8 before despatching their visitors for just 67.
Eighteen year-old leg spinner Karanpal Singh bagged 3-6 from six overs as Town moved level on points with Wisbech who have now completed their fixtures.
