Becoming Elizabeth, StarzPlay, from Sunday

Alicia von Rittberg heads the cast of this lavish period drama exploring the fascinatin­g, untold story of the early life of England’s most iconic Queen. Long before she ascends the throne, young Elizabeth Tudor is an orphaned teenager who finds herself embroiled in the political and sexual politics of the English court. The death of her father King Henry VIII sees his nine-year-old son Edward take the throne and sets into motion a dangerous scramble for power when the siblings, alongside their sister Mary, become pawns in a game between the great families of England and the powers of Europe who vie for control of the country.

Our Falklands War: A Frontline Story, BBC2, 9pm, Sunday

On 21st May 1982, British troops landed on the Falkland Islands, on the other side of the world from the UK, at the start of a cold and bloody 25-day land war. This documentar­y tells the stories of 10 men who fought in that campaign, in their own words, from the beginning to end, taking in the battle of Goose

Green, the catastroph­ic attack on the British ship the Sir Galahad and the final night of fighting that led to the Argentine surrender. As well as chroniclin­g their experience­s during the conflict, the programme also reveals how, over the past 40 years, these men have had to come to terms with their experience­s.

The British Soap Awards 2022: Live, ITV & STV, 8pm, Saturday

After a two-year break due to Covid, the ceremony is back with a live show – and it’s once again hosted by Phillip Schofield. The producers have taken advantage of their enforced hiatus to refresh the categories, and this year there will be 14 awards, including three voted for the by the public. As always, fans can vote for Best Soap, choosing from the big five – Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Doctors, Coronation Street and EastEnders – and there’s a new category for Best Family.

SPORT

Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Highlights, Channel 4, 6.30pm, Sunday

Last season’s race in Baku was one of the most dramatic of recent times. Eventual 2021 world champion Max Verstappen looked set to take his first Azerbaijan Grand Prix victory before he spun and crashed after an apparent tyre issue while leading with just five laps to go.

That opened the door for Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to secure his second career victory, followed by Sebastian Vettel and Pierre Gasly in the podium places, with Lewis Hamilton locking up on the penultimat­e lap to finish 15th.

MUSIC

The Smile: Forget Everything You Knew… A Debut Concert in London, Sky Arts, 9pm, Saturday

The band, comprising Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, and Son Of Kemet’s Tom Skinner, performed three consecutiv­e live shows within 24 hours at Magazine London, in the heart of London’s Docklands, in January 2022. This film, directed by Paul Dugdale, showcases footage from the impressive and captivatin­g 65-minute sets.
