Insurance firm praised for eco- friendly work
Peterborough-based BGL Insurance has been praised for its eco-friendly credentials.
The company based in Katharine Way, Bretton, has been awarded the ‘Green’ Investors in the Environment accreditation from environmental charity, PECT.
The accolade comes after the company, which is a digitaldistributorofmotor, home and life insurance for leading financial services brands, introduced several new initiatives as part of its #OneStepGreener programme to become a carbon neutral business, halving emissions by 2030 and achieving netzero by 2040.
Its new strategies included renewed reduction targets for emissions, wastage and energy consumption, new procurement commitments, ensuring any suppliers and service providers follow the same environmental agenda, significant reductions in printing and paper usage, as well as ongoing promotion of greener commuting options plus staff education programme linked to health, wellbeing and sustainability.
Steve Woodford, chief technology officer, said: “Challenges don’t come much bigger than the environmental crisis we're all facing and having a green agenda in place can no longer just be a tick box exercise for businesses.
"At BGL Insurance, we’ve set ourselves some tough targets to ensure that we are doing our bit and are passionate about equipping our colleagues with tools and knowledge to also help them to make a personal impact.
"We’ve no intention of stopping yet and have lots in our plan to ensure our environmental strategy continues to evolve in the coming months and years ahead.”
