Tigers ‘keeper set for Posh loan move
Cartwright is expected to move to the Weston Homes Stadium on loan and fight for a place with another new, more experienced, goalkeeper whose name has yet to emerge, but who should also be introduced on Thursday.
Cartwright (20), an England under 20 international, is well known to Posh manager Grant McCann from their days together at Hull. The player signed a new four-year contract at the MKM Stadium last season.
Cartwright’s Football League experience is limited to two Championship appearances for Hull last season. He has only previously been out on loan to non league club Gainsborough Trinity.
Cartwright told the Yorkshire Post: “Last season was a massive season of progression. Even though I only played two games, I still learned from them and it was a taster to make me want more.
"It is the classic saying that once you have played, you keep wanting more and I want to get as many games as I can.
“If I did go on loan, I’d want the experience of trying to win every game. I just leave it to the club and whatever they think is best for me.
" It is definitely a consideration and I am definitely open to anything about where I want to play firstteam football.
"The manager (at Hull) just wants me to get better and, whoever the goalkeepers are, he wants us to push each other on for the number one shirt and for us to help each other improve.
"My time at Gainsborough was important. It was a massive learning curve and a really good experience. It was ugly football at times and you got ‘lumped’ with crosses and you had players who wanted to hurt you. It was a different kind of experience, but I really enjoyed it.”
It’s thought Hull would only let Cartwright leave on loan if he was guaranteed plenty of first-team football. Posh are seeking two new keepers after letting Dai Cornell leave and placing Christy Pym on the transfer list. Pym and other transfer listed players latest – pages 84-85.
