- By Alan Swann alan.swann@nationalworld.com @PTAlanSwann

An excellent season for Posh has been rewarded by a hattrick of major EFL award nominations.

Darren Ferguson has been nominated for League One manager of the year alongside Stevenage boss Steve Evans and Portsmouth manager John Mousinho. Evans, who lives in Wansford, is a former Posh boss.

And in-form Posh captain Harrison Burrows will battle with Portsmouth skipper Marlon Pack and Derby County winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing for the player of the season in the third tier.

Left-back Burrows (22) has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season after his Wembley heroics in the EFL Trophy final and has 12 goal assists in League One games.

Only attacking player Mendez-Laing, a former Posh player, has more assists (15) and he has also scored nine goals, eight of them in League One.

And Ronnie Edwards is up against his England Under 20 teammate Charlie Hughes, a centre-back with Wigan Athletic, and Blackpool’s on-loan winger Karamoko Dembele, the younger brother of former Posh star Siriki Dembele, for young player of the year in League One.

The awards night takes place on Sunday at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.

Burrows and Edwards started all 40 League One

games for Posh this season ahead of a home match with Port Vale at the Weston Homes Stadium on Wednesday night.

PREVIEW

Posh have a tough game at play-off chasing Oxford United on Saturday.

Oxford have moved back into the top six after backto-back 4-0 wins at home to Fleetwood and away to Burton Albion.

After facing Posh, Oxford host seventh-placed Lincoln City in a crunch clash on Tuesday (April 16).

Oxford have an injury concern over key man Cameron Brannagan who has scored 10 goals from midfield this season, three fewer than top scorer Mark Harris who scored twice at Burton last time out.

Posh are also in action next Tuesday at home to Fleetwood Town (7.45pm kick off ). Next-to-bottom Fleetwood look set to be relegated.
