Sloborn, Walter Presents/Channel 4, streaming now

For those who don’t find Scandi-noir quite bleak enough, Sloborn returns for a second season of Scandipocalypse horrors. The series effortlessly combines the genres of coming-of-age drama and vast, sweeping disaster thriller as a deadly virus infects a small community living on the island of Sløborn, between Denmark and Germany in the North Sea. For 15-yearold Evelin (Emily Kusche), this nascent calamity was only one of many problems, as she dealt with the separation of her parents and her own pregnancy – her teacher is the father.

As we return in season two, the island is a very different place. Many locals are dead and most of the rest have evacuated.

DRAMA Red Eye, Sunday, ITV1 & STV, 9pm

Last Sunday evening we were treated to a new episode of Midsomer Murders, a far more gentle and easygoing crime drama than ITV1’s latest production, which is occupying a similar spot – and which its bosses hope will appeal to fans of Bodyguard and Vigil. Richard Armitage heads the cast as Dr Matthew Nolan, who is arrested on suspicion of murder after flying home to London following a medical conference in Beijing.

In the chaotic capital of Manila, Martin collects fares on one of the city’s iconic yet threatened jeepneys. Then, heading for the hills of Luzon Island, the host discovers coffins hanging from a cliff, a burial ritual still practised by the Kankanaey tribe.

TRAVEL Michael Palin in Nigeria, Tuesday, C5, 9pm

From the top of Dala Hill in the centre of the ancient city of Kano, the view is spellbinding. It is also the point from which the former Monty Python star sets off on the second part of his adventure around Nigeria. Mohammad Adamu – who’s lived in Kano all his adult life – takes the host to an openair stadium to witness the ancient Hausa sport of Dambe Boxing. The next morning, Michael meets a special young woman. Amina Ali Nkeki was one of the 276 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014. In an emotional interview she reveals her harrowing story.
