‘First on the Scene’ launch

A safety organisati­on is turning to technology to promote emergency response and awareness in youngsters.

The South Marr Community Safety Group yesterday launched its First on the Scene project — a series of four DVDS that demonstrat­e how to tackle common emergency situations.

Aimed at children just starting to venture out without parental supervisio­n, the films illustrate how to deal with t he effects of alcohol, traffic collisions, sudden illness and getting into difficulty in water.

They were shown at the official launch event at the Deeside Christian Fellowship Church at Burn o Bennie, Banchory, and are now available to download for free.

Services including the Red Cross, Grampian Police, Grampian Fire

“We have been excited to be involved with this project”

and Rescue and the Scottish Ambulance Service, as well as Aberdeensh­ire Council and Aberdeen College, have pledged their support for the project.

Roddy Lees, a member of the South Marr group and watch manager at Banchory fire station, said: “The First on the Scene project has been a brilliant example of public-sector agencies and individual­s working together to produce these fantastic results.”

Chairman Geo f f Feeney added: “This is an extremely worthwhile project which the community safety group has been excited to be involved with.”

The safety group will be welcoming guest speaker Gerry Bowyer, of the Aberdeen Street Pastors, to its annual meeting on Thursday.

The meeting, at the Tor- na- Coille Hotel, Banchory, starts at 7.30pm.
