Assassin gets outside the ropes to back brother

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

Aberdeen Assassin Lee Mcallister is looking forward to sampling the Beach Ballroom atmosphere from the other side of the boxing ropes.

The double Common- wealth champion is still recovering from an elbow injury s uffered in his unsuccessful European title tilt against Denis Shafikov in January.

But he will be supporting younger brother, Matthew, who headlines his first Beach Ballroom show alongside fellow Aberdeen prospect Darren Traynor next Friday night. Lee is still awaiting results of further tests before he can plot a comeback but he said: “I am really looking forward to watching Matthew and Darren and getting a taste for the atmosphere from the other side.

“Obviously it will be frustrating. I would rather be in the ring again, but it will be the next best thing. I have not hung up my gloves just yet, but it is exciting to see the next generation of Aberdeen boxers. These two will be part of the new era.”

The Assassin may not be in the ring, but he is determined to give something back to his supporters.

The 28-year-old will have his assortment of belts with him and will give his faithful followers opportunities to have their photograph taken with the two-weight Commonwealth champion.

He said: “I have always said I have the best supporters in the country.

“I want to give them something back.”
