Daley fails to land medal

-

Tom Daley and Rebecca Gallantree failed to kick-start Britain’s medal hint at the European diving championships in Eindhoven last night.

The duo had to be content with sixth place in the nonOlympic team event to open the six-day meet at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Centre.

Both divers struggled, with Daley missing his final dive from the platform, to finish well out of the medals. Deveronvale captain Scott Fraser is hoping the managerial confusion at the club will be brought to a close.

On Sunday Vale released a statement thanking caretaker manager Charlie Duncan for taking charge and then asking for applications for the post.

“We really do need to start afresh, but it all needs to be sorted out once and for all”

That was despite Duncan being told he would be in charge next season.

Centre half Fraser, who is in his sixth season at Princess Royal Park, took over as captain when longserving forward Mike Mckenzie handed in a transfer request three weeks ago.

Mckenzie has not been near the Banff club since and Fraser said: “Of course all of the goings on off the park have been tremendously unsettling in the dressing-room.

“When former manager Scott Anderson and his assistant Steve Dolan left the club we were all unsure of what was going to happen until Charlie Duncan came in as caretaker until the end of the season.

“All the indecision about what was happening definitely affected the players, Mike Mckenzie and I, as the longest-serving players, were able to handle the situation, but most of the rest are just kids and they really did find it difficult.”

Fraser added: “We were just getting used to Charlie Duncan, and a few of us thought he was going to be the new manager, when t hings have changed again.

“I received a phone call from our chairman to let the other lads know the club were going to be advertising for a new manager and that as the current captain I was going to be the link between the board and the playing squad. For the sake of the club we really need to get things sorted out as certain players are out of contract, and even players in contract can get away as we saw last s e a s o n w i t h Ma r k Chisholm going to Buckie Thistle.

“We really do need to start afresh, but it all needs to be sorted out once and for all before pre-season training starts.”
