Investigation: Forensic officers attend after pensioner’s body discovered
Police are investigating the unexplained death of a pensioner in his home in Aberdeen.
Emergency services were called to Crossgates, in the Bucksburn area of the city, shortly after 10am yesterday, following reports of a death.
The man was named locally as 74-year-old Peter Walker.
Neighbours of the pensioner watched in shock as a police cordon was established in the street and forensic teams gathered evidence for most of the afternoon.
One nearby resident,
“It has been quite a week of tragedies that we’ve had in the city”
who did not wish to be named, said: “I didn’t know him that well, he kept himself to himself.”
Officers confirmed the death was being treated as unexplained and inquiries were ongoing.
A police spokeswoman said: “We are at the scene at the moment.
“We are investigating a sudden death.
“It’s still at an early stage.
“The man was found within a property and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.”
Last night, Aberdeen councillor Graeme Lawrence expressed his condolences upon hearing the news.
He added: “It’s obviously very sad that a man has died and our thoughts must go out to his friends and family.
“It has been quite a week of tragedies that we’ve had in the city.
“It is a very quiet street which is in one of the quieter parts of Bucksburn.
“We haven’t heard anything to lead us to believe there are any suspicious circumstances, but with sudden deaths, there always has to be an investigation.
“It’s quite sad for someone to die in their home and, once again, thoughts go out to his family and friends.”
