Inverness Harrier Finbar Dunne scored an impressive throws double at the Scottish under-15 track and field championships at Grangemouth.

The Oban High School pupil won the shot and discus with respective personal best throws of 13.75 and 42.73m to emulate clubmate George Evans’ achievements from 2013.

Evans has since gone on to establish himself as one of Britain’s top young throwers and represented Great Britain in this summer’s world junior championships in Poland.

Dunne’s Inverness clubmate added to the Harriers’ medal haul by winning the hammer with a throw of 45.48.

Aberdeen AAC’s Harry Hall was also in sizzling form when retaining his 800m title.

The north-east athlete ran an outstanding personal best time of 2min 1.57sec to finish almost six seconds quicker than his championship-winning performance 12 months ago.

Stuart Bain (Shetland) hit top form to win the long jump by clearing a lifetime best of 5.79 and he struck bronze in the javelin by throwing 37.13.

Banchory Stonehaven AC’s Craig Strachan suffered an agonising defeat in the 100m, losing out in a photo finish after sharing the same time (11.45) as winner Jamie Stevenson (VP Glasgow). Strachan’s time equalled the personal best he recorded when winning the Scottish East District title in May.

Carmen Neat (Aberdeen AAC) was second in the high jump, clearing 1.51 while Eilidh MacPherson (Inverness Harriers) took the bronze on countback after achieving the same height (1.46) as Pitreavie’s Jennifer Brydon.

Aberdeen AAC’s Murray Addison was a double medallist, finishing second in the 80m hurdles in 13.09 and third in the triple jump with a personal best 10.72 while Rachel MacLennan (Inverness Harriers) was third in the hammer, with a lifetime best of 40.49, and discus (24.41).

Another Aberdeen athlete, Jane Davidson, was second in the 75m hurdles in her quickest time of 11.73.

Craig Watts (Inverness Harriers) struck a golden double in the Scottish under13 championships at the same venue, winning the discus with a 25.80 personal best throw and taking the javelin title with 31.04.

There were also golds for William Hodi (Nairn), who cleared 1.42 to win the high jump, and Lewis Watt (Aberdeen AAC), who took the 800m in 2:19.64.

Robin Snedden (Inverness Harriers) was third in the 200m in 27.50 while Hannah Kingham (Elgin AAC) was third in the javelin with a throw of 24.99.
