As Cove get flying start
Brora Rangers have signed 18-year-old Inverness twins Scott and Cameron Lisle on 12-month contracts.
The teenagers, full back Cameron and midfielder Scott, are the sons of Martin, who joined Caledonian as a 16-year-old in 1979 and remained until 1994, after which he spent another season with Caledonian Thistle. The midfielder made 538 appearances for Caley and scored 120 goals.
Brora manager Grant A celebration dinner to mark the 50-year association with the Highland League of retiring secretary John Grant, pictured, will take place at Elgin’s Mansion House Hotel on Friday, September 9.
Highland League president Dennis Bridgeford said: “It is John’s big night marking his 40 years as Highland League Munro has high hopes for the youngsters and said: “I still can’t tell Scott and Cameron apart. They are both products of the youth system at Clachnacuddin and have been rewarded for doing well in pre-season.
“We really need to get more youth into the squad and young players such as the Lisle twins and James Ross are the future of the football club. We have quite a few players approaching 30 and they can’t go on forever, secretary. But when you take into account his decade as a referee, it takes his total involvement with Highland League football to half a century. “The evening will be a celebration of John’s services with one of S c o tland’s l e a ding much as we would like them to.”
Munro added there has already been interest in his new acquisitions. He said: “We have already had inquiries from clubs wanting to take them on loan, I’m not in favour of that at the moment but we will see how they progress.
“I grew up watching Martin playing in the middle of the park for Caley. He was a fantastic footballer and also a great athlete and scored loads of goals.” referees of his time, Willie Young, as guest speaker.
