WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS

GThe Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is offering its supporters over the age of 55 the chance to write their will for free during Free Wills Month this October, at participating solicitors in Scotland. The Free Wills Month scheme gives people the chance to write their will and, if they wish, include a gift to a charity. After taking care of loved ones, even the smallest gift in a will saves lives at sea. With nearly two thirds of lifeboat launches only made possible with gifts left to the charity, the RNLI is hoping people will consider remembering them in their wills, helping the charity continue to provide its vital lifesaving service. Gary Crowe, volunteer lifeboat crew member at Dunbar Lifeboat Station, said: “The RNLI has helped those in peril at sea since 1824. No one knows what the future holds, but we do know the sea will always be dangerously unpredictable. “Our help will always be needed and we’ll always need to safeguard our courageous volunteer crews and lifeguards. “With six out of every 10 RNLI lifeboat launches only made possible due to gifts left to the RNLI in wills, every donation however big or small really does help to save lives. “I’m so grateful to everyone who leaves a gift to the RNLI in their will. Volunteer lifeboat crew members like me can confidently and safely go out and save lives at sea thanks to the generosity of the public – we really do rely on your support.” Participants are not obliged to leave a gift to the RNLI when they make or update their will using the Free Wills Month service, but the charity hopes that people will consider doing so.
