Mignolet’s cup return

Simon Mignolet will return for Liverpool in the EFL Cup tie against Tottenham at Anfield tonight but manager Jurgen Klopp has made it clear the Belgian goalkeeper is now second choice. Mignolet has had three inconsiste­nt seasons at Anfield and lost his place to new signing Loris Karius for the win against Derby in the third round of the cup last month. At the time Klopp said he had no definite number one but, with Karius having now played five games in succession, his thoughts have changed.

Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis believes James Maddison has all the attributes necessary to become a key player for the number one’s beloved Norwich City – but hopes the Canaries allow the talented 19-year-old to remain at Pittodrie until the end of the season.
