A9O diversions over bypass

AWPR: Drivers warned of delays as lanes closed to allow for bridge work

- BY CALLUM LAW

Motorists are bracing themselves for traffic chaos tonight and tomorrow due to road and lane closures related to the Aberdeen bypass.

The B979 Netherley Road will be closed completely between New Mains of Ury and Glenury Road in Stonehaven from 8pm tonight, and will reopen at 6am tomorrow.

The same thing will also happen tomorrow night into Sunday morning.

The A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road at Stonehaven will be reduced to one lane from 8pm tonight until 6am tomorrow.

The closures will let the construction contractors instal safety equipment underneath the A90 bridge and do other work to prepare for the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge.

Signposted diversions will be in place to account for the closure of the B979.

Those travelling north from Stonehaven are advised to follow the B979, Allardice Street, then the A957, Dunnottar Avenue, onto the A92, known as the coast road, which leads to the A90.

Those heading south are advised to follow the B979, New Mains of Ury, then turn onto the A90 heading for Aberdeen before leaving the A90 at the Newtonhill Flyover and rejoining the A90 heading south. A Transport Scotland spokesman said the closures had been planned to cause minimum disruption, but still asked motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey.

They said: “The intention was to complete the installation of apparatus underneath

“They should give themselves additional travelling time”

the A90 bridge, which spans the B979, last weekend, but this proved to be more complex than initially thought.

“Additional works are required to ensure the apparatus is fitted securely, and it is therefore necessary to temporarily close the B979 for two nights this coming weekend.

“We are aware that this is a popular commuter route and therefore the contractor has timed these closures to minimise the impact on road users.

“We would like to encourage those drivers who would consider using this route at weekend nights to plan their journey in advance.

“They should also give themselves additional travelling time so that they can reach their destination safely.”
