Man lets hidden crime cash slip

-

The boyfriend of Towie star Cara Kilbey is facing jail after he let slip to jurors that cash stashed in his daughter’s bedroom was from crime.

Unemployed Daniel Harris was cleared of masterminding a multimillionpound drugs empire and involvement in the supply of heroin following a trial at the Old Bailey.

The 33-year-old said he had “champagne tastes, lemonade money” when he was challenged to explain his luxury lifestyle of fast cars and designer clothes.

Quizzed on £116,000 in bank notes found in his daughter’s wardrobe, he claimed he was given it to help fund his suspected drug smuggler father’s legal defence.

In an apparent admission, he said: “It may well have come from crime or some sort of criminal activity but I don’t know the origins of it.”

Harris was accused of making “vast profits” by sending drug couriers on mopeds disguised as trainee cabbies in London.

He was also charged over a £200,000 heroin deal which was scuppered by police in May 2015.

He denied all the charges against him and the jury deliberated for a day, clearing Harris of conspiracies to supply class A drugs but

“I don’t know, it could have come from crime”

finding him guilty of possessing criminal property.

Harris was arrested in March 2016 after police launched a surveillance of him which lasted for more than a year.

Judge Nicholas Cooke QC adjourned sentencing Harris until today.
