Best of rest remains frustrated Murty’s ambition

-

Rangers caretaker manager Graeme Murty is refusing to concede defeat in his club’s hopes of catching secondplaced Aberdeen. Caley Thistle’s 2-1 victory has given the Dons the opportunity to move nine points clear of the Ibrox side with a win against Ross County at Pittodrie today, with the managerless Gers winning just one of their last seven league games. Murty said: “The chance is still there for us to get second place. We have to just make sure we pick up points and we haven’t managed to do that. “The challenge is still there and until it’s mathematically impossible, this group of players will be going all out to do it.” Murty refused to blame uncertainty surrounding the club following the departure of manager Mark Warburton as the reason behind the recent slump in form, claiming he was encouraged by parts of last night’s performance. He added: “I don’t think it is a factor. I saw a group of players who were focused. They started particularly well, for 25 minutes they were great, but it’s the same old problem. If we don’t score when we have the chances, we’re not going to take too many points home. I have not got the time to convey exactly how I’m feeling. Suffice to say we’re walking away with nothing and that’s not good enough for this football club. “This club has been, and will be again, about winning football matches and we haven’t managed to do that. “When we got back into the game, and got the goal, I could only see us winning it. “I thought we had dodged one with Wes Foderingham saving the penalty, but we weren’t clinical enough in either box and we’ve paid the price.”
