No lack of courage or conviction from brave Highlanders

Rangers were back in Inverness last night on the back of a lacklustre performance at Dens Park on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to Dundee.

Trouble has followed this club around in recent years and, even though they have worked their way back to the Premiership, things are still far from right.

With the massive resources at their disposal the Light Blues should be doing better, but their manager is gone and there seems to be no rush to replace him. Caley Thistle had lost narrowly to Ranger on a couple of occasions this season, but another loss just wouldn’t do in Caley Thistle’s present predicament.

It doesn’t matter who it is against, every game has to be viewed as an opportunity to pick up points and get back to winning ways.

Nothing else will do if Inverness are to stay in this division.

With Rangers heading north in the middle of their own woes, surely this was an opportunity for the home team to finally get their act together.

Caretaker manager Graeme Murty claimed his team had not coped well with Dundee’s determination last week which should have been enough to encourage the Caley Thistle players to really get stuck in without their own manager needing to say anything.

So how would Rangers respond to a trip to Inverness on an unpleasant Friday evening in February? It made for an intriguing fixture.

So it proved and at long last Caley Thistle picked up three points and the implications of that could be huge.

A win against one of the Old Firm, whatever sort of form they are in, is always something to cherish and this was no different. What matters now is how they respond in the games ahead. Celtic will be a tough prospect on Wednesday, but the next lot of three points needs to come soon.

And what a goal it was from the one and only Billy Mckay. Talk about making an impression.
