her education and swimming career when she does call time on her competitive career.

The final chapters of the Miley story have not been written but the double Commonwealth champion and former world champion believes the lessons she has learned so far can help the next generation emulate her longevity.

She said: “I’m still keeping my options open and seeing who would have me in the real world. The masterclasses are a taster for me as they are something I’d like to take around the country and down to England and anywhere else where anyone would like to hear my story and what I have to offer. I’ve not been the biggest athlete or the strongest but I work incredibly hard. My work methodology is something that each youngster can take on board.

“I’m trying to show people it’s not all about the big shiny medal at the end. It’s about enjoying what you do and being happy about achieving personal goals.

“Nowadays we get a lot of pressure and success is measured by the number of medals won.

“Psychologically the destruction mentally on those who don’t get that medal or don’t make the cut can be damaging in the long run and I want to provide these young swimmers with a set of tools which allows them to be in control of what they do and ensure they don’t have to rely on keeping other people happy.”

Scott Whyte, managing director of Watermans, joined Miley in Aberdeen and said: “For young swimmers to get the chance to spend time with a triple Olympian is something money can’t buy. We thought Aberdeen would be a good starting point and a chance to let Hannah have a trial run of what she wants to do and clearly the kids have had a great time.”

“Swimming is a complicated sport but you have to love it”
