A teenage boy will appear in court today after a crash on one of the north-east’s busiest roads.

The 16-year-old has been charged with an alleged failure to stop for police officers and other road traffic offences after the incident on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road on Monday.

A blue Vauxhall Astra crashed into a fence at the conclusion of a police pursuit which ended on the outskirts of Marykirk.

The incident happened around 8.30pm after the vehicle failed to stop for police in the Laurencekirk area. The car was left stuck in the wire fencing with its windows smashed and the airbag deployed.

There was a strong police presence in the area with at least four vehicles spotted at the scene.

Police confirmed yesterday two men had been detained in connection with the incident before stating a 16-year-old had been charged.

Nobody was injured or required medical attention following the accident.

Police were also called to a two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon at the Toll of Birness at the junction between the A90, Aberdeen to Peterhead road, and the A952, Mintlaw to

Gthe Toll of Birness road. The crash happened around noon and involved a black Honda Jazz and a lorry.

Unconfirmed reports suggested the driver of the Honda was a learner.

Police left the scene at 3.30pm, and although the southbound carriageway was partially blocked after the crash, it was passable and nobody was injured.

Councillor Richard Thomson was pleased there were no injuries, but stressed the importance of road awareness.

He said: “There was some pretty nasty weather conditions across Aberdeenshire yesterday, which would not have made things any easier for drivers.

“I’m very glad to hear that nobody was injured. This emphasises the importance of driving carefully and to conditions.”
