Aberdeen rowers hit medal trail at Strathclyd­e Park Regatta

Members of the Aberdeen Schools Rowing Associatio­n claimed seven gold and four silver medals at the Strathclyd­e Park Regatta.

The junior 16 boys’ team of Aidan Graham, Danny Skinner, Daniel Lynch, Sam Kelso and cox Emily Murdoch, won the open restricted 2 coxed fours event against nearest challenger­s Belfast Rowing Club.

Megan Hewison and Abigail Topp pulled away from the opposition in the women’s junior 16 double sculls and, despite having to repel a late surge from Inverness Rowing Club, hung on for victory. The pair teamed up with Ellie Andrew, Megan Lewis and cox Emily Murdoch to win the women’s junior 18 coxed four event in emphatic style.

The junior 15 boys’ team of Seth Turner, Chris Bardas, Alexander Beeson, Jakub Zbikowski and cox Michael McCrory, dominated 11 other crews in the open novice coxed quadruple sculls. The junior 15 and junior 16 boys joined forces to score an impressive win in the final of the open restricted 2 eights.

Harris MacDonald, Ashley Geddes, Archie Innes, Matthew Hughson and cox Connor Kennedy secured victory in the open junior 14 coxed quadruple sculls final. Turner, Bardas, Beeson and Zbikowski, coxed by McCrory, completed a hat-trick of golds with a win in the open novice coxed fours. Settling for silver were Conrad Forbes and Theo Stott in the open junior 18 coxless pairs; Topp, Andrew, Lewis, Hewison and cox Murdoch in the women’s restricted 2 coxed fours; Topp in the women’s junior 16 single sculls and MacDonald and Hughson in the open junior 14 double sculls.
