Woman dies after lorry collision

- BY JOANNE WARNOCK

A woman has died in hospital after being involved in a collision with an articulated lorry on a busy Aberdeen road.

Helen Livingstone, 81, from Cove died following the accident on the northbound carriageway of Wellington Road, outside Lidl on Monday.

The collision happened at around 10am, and the driver of the lorry was not injured.

Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene, which was just yards from the pedestrian crossing at Balnagask Road.

The pensioner had been freed from under the lorry by firefighters and was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance with serious injuries.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours, with traffic being diverted on to Abbotswell Road, which caused lengthy delays.

A police spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that the 81-year-old woman who was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry on Wellington Road at around 10.10am on Monday, 12 June, has sadly died in hospital.

“She has been named as Helen Livingstone, of the Altens area.”

Sgt Neil Morrison, of the force’s road policing unit, confirmed that officers had carried out an accident investigation, but also urged witnesses to come forward with information.

He said: “A woman was crossing the road from the Lidl side when the incident happened.

“She was attended at the scene by the lorry driver and members of the public until the emergency services arrived.

“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses who came forward and we would like to thank them for their time.

“However, we would urge anyone who saw the incident and has not already come forward to do so by calling 101.”

Mrs Livingstone’s family did not wish to comment.
