Dawn of new era at Keith

Former Aberdeen University juniors manager takes reins

- BY DAVE EDWARDS

Keith yesterday unveiled former Aberdeen University junior team manager Ewan Robb as their new manager.

Robb, Keith’s first-team coach last season, takes over at the Maroons helm after Allan Hale’s resignation last month.

Robb, 35, who previously coached and played for Stonehaven juniors, has brought in fellow Aberdonian Martin Skinner as his assistant.

Former Dundee United, Aberdeen and Caley Thistle midfielder Stuart Duff, now playing at Inverurie Locos, had accepted the Keith position last week but then had a change of heart.

Robb is really looking forward to the challenge ahead and said: “I am relishing the task ahead and can’t wait to get started on Monday.

“The focus will be on trying to get the lads fit and ready for the visit of Fort William on July 29, a day when both clubs will have new management teams making their debuts. Keith are a big club with a great Highland League history. We finished in 10th place last season and if I could end up 10th or maybe higher next term I would be delighted.

“It is a good club, a successful club, and it was sad to see them struggling in the bottom four in recent years.

“My new assistant Martin and I go back a long way. I coached him as a young boy, when I was involved with Aberdeen, working alongside the likes of Neil Simpson, Stuart Glennie and Jim Crawford.

“I then took a while out of the game to concentrate on competing in triathlons but when I was doing my SFA B licence at the end of May, Martin was also there, so everything has kind of fallen into place since then.

“When I gave Martin the call he, like myself, was definitely up for it.”

“A good club, a successful club. It was sad to see them struggling”
