Pets’ Corner due to reopen
A popular animal site in Aberdeen will reopen next month following a £750,000 renovation.
Pets’ Corner in Hazlehead Park now contains new fish and reptile tanks, in addition to refulgent new paths.
Visitors will also soon gain the chance to catch up with old favourites such as Gethin – a pygmy goat who arrived last summer.
The area will be open to the public from Saturday, July 1 and a new education room will be unveiled shortly afterwards.
Donald Shaw, chairman of the Friends of Hazlehead Park, is convinced the refurb will give people an extra reason to visit the area. He said: “One of our priorities was to improve Pets’ Corner and transform it into an interpretive and educational centre for the city and shire.
“It’s fantastic the work to the aquarium and reptile section will be finished – a refurbished and extended Pets’ Corner will be a boost to the park as it will give people, and particularly families, a reason to visit the area and find out all the fantastic facilities there are.”
The city council’s infrastructure convener Yvonne Allan added it would prove popular because the school holidays are just beginning. She said: “It’s great the work has finished for the new aquarium and reptile section and I’m sure visitors from both near and far will enjoy the new facilities.

ments and new additions will make it a really exciting place to go for people of all ages. The work will be finished just as the school holidays start, so we are sure Pets’ Corner will be even more popular this year.”
Over the summer months the facility will be open every day from 10am to 5.30pm.
